A Theories of Translation unit delivers theoretical tools for advanced reflection on the modes and purposes of translation within the translator’s social and cultural context.

Units in English for translators and in academic English foster an invaluable general awareness of how language works and help you to hone your English skills for professional purposes. These units may be substituted with another unit by students whose native language is English. Practical translation units in applied and semi-specialised translation give you opportunities to begin building a specialism in broader areas (e.g. science and technology, culture and society, business, law, education). You may also choose to do an extended translation as part of your dissertation.

Units are taught by experienced practitioners, using industry-standard software such as Trados and Wincaps. Support is available to gain an extra certification in the use of Trados translation memory software. We also organise guest lectures and workshops by representatives of the translation industry.
